Fire Rated Plywood to EN 45545-2 :2020 R10 & R28 to HL1, HL2 & HL3
Birch Plywood Flooring Panels have been tested and classified in accordance with EN 45545-2:2020, meeting the requirements of Requirement Sets R10 and R28 across Hazard Levels HL1, HL2, and HL3.
R10 evaluates reaction-to-fire performance for interior vertical surfaces, such as wall panels, partitions, and linings. Testing assesses flame spread, heat release rate, smoke density, and toxicity.
R28 evaluates horizontal surfaces, such as flooring and subflooring materials, and assesses flame spread, heat release rate, and smoke/toxic gas generation.
Together, these classifications demonstrate that the panels provide high fire safety performance suitable for a wide range of railway interior applications, including both wall and floor assemblies.

Contra-Burn is a non-toxic, water-based product that effectively blocks the supply of oxygen in the fire-threatened material. In this way Contra-Burn halts the burning process, just as it can counteract the ignition of treated plywood and timber. Contra-Burn treated plywood is approved to the highest classification according to the Euroclass system for building products, making it the perfect solution for most building projects.
Contra-Burn treated materials can be used for exterior cladding, wood constructions in multi-store buildings, fitting solutions, interior wall and floor constructions.
Non-Toxic
- No ingredient of Contra-Burn is on the REACH list or REACH candidate list
- 100% Organic. In its liquid form, bio-degrades in 14 days
- Non-harmful and non-hazardous. 100% food grade ingredients
- Waste Management - safe disposal, treat as normal plywood
- Handling - no additional masks or gloves
- No additional cost implications for storage, handling & disposal
Borate Free
- Traditionally, borates are used in fire rated timber and plywood
- Sodium perborate is on the REACH candidate list of substances for very high concern
- Sodium perborate meets the criteria to be classified as toxic for reproduction. Read the ECHA support document
